What to look for when buying privately online
A practical look at checkout, packaging, and personal information.
Privacy is more than a promise of discreet packaging. Look at the information a store collects, the messages it sends, and the details it publishes about orders and delivery.
Check the store's policies
Read the privacy, shipping, warranty and return policies before ordering. Find out who operates the store and how to contact them. Hygiene-related restrictions should be explained clearly, alongside applicable consumer rights.
Understand the delivery details
Check what will appear on packaging and shipping labels, and whether customs documents must describe the contents. International shipments may require truthful product information even when the outer box is discreet.
Keep billing recognizable
A payment description can be discreet while remaining identifiable to you. If the store provides a billing descriptor, keep a note of it so you can recognize the transaction later.
Choose what you share
You should not need to provide sensitive health details simply to join a product launch list. Review newsletter consent and how to unsubscribe. If sharing a device or mailbox, consider who can see notifications and saved browsing information.
